Israel Attacks Ambulance Crew, Lebanese Army Post in South Lebanon

BEIRUT (Dispatches) — Israeli warplanes targeted an ambulance team rushing to rescue wounded civilians in southern Lebanon on Saturday, in the most egregious attack of a day marked by continued violations of a disgraceful U.S.-mediated framework agreement.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, two airstrikes struck the Old Square neighborhood in the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa. A third strike then deliberately targeted an ambulance crew from the Islamic Message Scouts and the Student House as it headed to the site of the initial raids. The medical team miraculously survived the attack.
The strikes came despite the framework agreement signed on June 26, which provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army.
Israel has carried out attacks on Lebanon since early March, killing nearly 4,400 people and injuring over 12,300 others, while displacing more than 1 million people, according to Lebanese authorities.
In a separate incident, Israeli artillery shelled the Chaqra area in the Bint Jbeil district, injuring two people who were taken to a hospital. Israeli forces also shelled the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun and the Izziyeh Valley in the morning hours.
Israeli enemy forces carried out a major demolition operation in the town of Al-Khiam on Saturday. On Friday evening, Israeli forces conducted a massive, multi-stage explosion operation in the town of Al-Mansouri, south of Tyre, while simultaneously sweeping the outskirts of Sarbine in the Bint Jbeil district.
Israeli soldiers also advanced toward a newly established Lebanese Army observation post on the outskirts of Deir Mimas and threw six stun grenades in the surrounding area before searching several homes in the town.
Additionally, Israeli forces set fire to the government hospital in Mais al-Jabal in the Marjayoun district on Friday. The Lebanese Health Ministry condemned the act as a “blatant violation” of international agreements.
Hezbollah parliamentarian Ali Ammar stated that the Israeli aggression against the Lebanese Army at Deir Mimas is “a natural result of the humiliating path adopted by the Lebanese government,” which continues to offer the enemy free concessions.
He warned that the Zionist enemy and the Americans behind it want Lebanon to be a weak, obedient state without an army capable of defending its sovereignty.
The framework agreement, signed on June 26 under American auspices, was supposed to end the violence. Instead, it has provided legal cover for Israel’s persistent violations while demanding nothing of the occupation regime in return.
Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc has condemned the agreement in the most damning terms, describing it as a “humiliating and shameful path” that has given Israel free rein to violate Lebanese sovereignty at will.
