Official: Kermanshah Borders Key to Expanding Iran–Iraq Trade

TEHRAN — Iraq’s consul general in Kermanshah has said the existence of five official borders and one border market in Kermanshah is a very important capacity for developing trade between the two countries.
Speaking in a meeting with Manouchehr Habibi, the Governor of Kermanshah, on Wednesday, Saadoun al-Saadi emphasized the extensive capacities for developing economic relations between Iran and Iraq.
The volume of trade exchange between the two countries can increase more than before in the future, and Iraq possesses suitable capacities for developing trade with Iran, especially with Kermanshah Province, he added.
Given the existing economic pressures and challenges, as well as the many commonalities between the two countries, the Iraqi government plans to further develop its relations and trade exchanges with Iran, he noted.
Referring to the multiple borders between Iran and Iraq as well as the religious, cultural, and economic commonalities between the two countries, Al-Saadi said that while the present level of trade between Iran and Iraq is substantial, the available capacities suggest it could grow considerably further.
Iran holds a special position among the countries supplying Iraq’s needs, he said, adding that Iranian agricultural and industrial products can capture a larger share of the Iraqi market.
The existing capacities at Kermanshah’s borders can play an important role in increasing trade exchanges, developing economic relations, and deepening cooperation between Iran and Iraq, he noted.
