TEHRAN – The second 
propane storage tank at the South Pars phases 22-24 refinery has come on stream using domestically manufactured cryogenic pumps, with the first export shipment successfully loaded from the facility.
Babak Zare, acting deputy for development projects at Pars Oil and Gas Company, said Iranian manufacturers had designed and produced several of the cryogenic pumps required for the LPG storage tanks at the South Pars phases 22-24 project.
Cryogenic pumps are specialized and critical equipment in the LPG storage and loading chain, Zare said, adding that domestic manufacturers’ ability to design, produce and reliably operate such equipment could pave the way for greater local production in similar oil and gas projects.
Following installation, commissioning and required testing, more than 6,500 metric tons of liquid propane were successfully loaded for export from the second LPG tank, he said.
The operation was carried out in the presence of representatives from the project, contractor, equipment manufacturer, South Pars 12th Refinery and the National Iranian Gas Co.’s dispatching management.
Amirfarzan Fazelian, manager of the South Pars phases 22-24 development project, said the installation of the cryogenic pumps and successful completion of site acceptance testing, or SAT, cleared the way for the equipment to enter the operational cycle and begin export loading.
The successful operation demonstrated the performance of domestically manufactured cryogenic pumps under actual operating conditions and marked the entry of the southern propane tank into the export loading cycle, Fazelian said.
He added that the development also completes another key piece of storage and loading infrastructure under the South Pars phases 22-24 project.
