Report: U.S. Cuts Air Cover for Tankers in Strait of Hormuz
WASHINGTON -- The United States has reduced
air-defense coverage for tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, limiting military protection to specific
daily time slots, the Financial Times reported Saturday.
The shift reflects the high cost of sustaining continuous aerial defense, with U.S. aircraft costing up to $75,000 an hour, it said.
