TEHRAN -- Iranian cinemas recorded their biggest audience week of the year, drawing 485,712 admissions and generating more than 53.16 billion tomans (about $231,200) in box-office revenue during the week ended Sept. 11.
The 25th week of the Iranian calendar year, covering Saturday, Sept. 5, through Friday, Sept. 11, saw nationwide cinema attendance reach its highest level since the start of the year, coinciding with National Cinema Day.
Box-office revenue reached 53.16 billion tomans (about $231,200) during the period, with ticket prices cut by half on Friday.
Kourosh Cinema Complex led the country’s cinema venues by attendance, drawing 23,205 moviegoers, an increase of 10 percent from the previous week. 
It was followed by Iran Mall Cinema Complex with 19,668 admissions, up 6 percent; Hedish Cinema Complex with 12,043, up 9 percent; Charsou Cinema Complex with 11,264, up 83 percent; and Azadi Cinema Complex with 11,064, up 10 percent.
Among individual films, Soroush Sehhat’s The Pool (Estakhr) ranked first with 111,604 admissions. Kazem Daneshi’s The Death Bath (Zendeh Shour) followed with 111,470, while Youssef Hatami-Kia’s Escort ranked third with 103,518.
The animated film Savior Ship, directed by Hadi Muhammadian, placed fourth with 72,216
 admissions, followed by Hamed Muhammadi’s Napoleon in the Apricot Garden with 43,489.
The latest figures also show a sustained rise in cinema attendance over five consecutive weeks. Attendance stood at 251,000 in the week of Aug. 8–14, corresponding to the 21st week of the year; increased to 328,000 in the 22nd week, covering Aug. 15–21; reached 352,000 in the 23rd week, covering Aug. 22–28; and climbed to 399,000 in the 24th week, covering Aug. 29–Sept. 4.
With attendance reaching 485,712 in the 25th week, Iranian cinemas have recorded uninterrupted weekly growth over the five-week period leading into National Cinema Day.
