TEHRAN -- The music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will take center stage in Tehran this week as the Tehran Symphony Orchestra presents “Figaro,” a program bringing together three works from the composer’s celebrated classical-era repertoire.
Led by conductor Nasir Heidarian, the orchestra will perform Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 15 and 16, at 9:30 p.m. at Vahdat Hall, with a program spanning opera, concerto and symphony.
The evening opens with The Marriage of Figaro Overture, Mozart’s lively orchestral introduction to his 1786 opera, followed by the Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major, K. 414 and the Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major, K. 543.
Pianist Anisa Yazdanian, a young musician, will appear as soloist for the Piano Concerto No. 12, joining the Tehran Symphony Orchestra for the central work of the program.
Together, the three pieces offer contrasting views of Mozart’s orchestral language: the theatrical energy of The Marriage of Figaro, 
the clarity and intimacy of the piano concerto, and the expansive architecture of the Symphony No. 39. The program thus traces the breadth of a composer whose music continues to occupy a central place in the classical repertoire.
The concert forms part of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra’s 2026 performance season. The orchestra, one of Iran’s longstanding symphonic ensembles, is based at Vahdat Hall and operates under the Rudaki Foundation.  
The concert follows a series of performances by the orchestra this year, including the “Beyond the Borders” program in May and a performance centered on the Shahnameh and Iranian identity. In August, the orchestra also presented “Khosuf,” a musical interpretation of the events of Ashura, after an absence of more than two decades.
With “Figaro,” the orchestra turns once again to the European classical canon, placing three Mozart works from different musical forms within a single evening and giving Tehran audiences an opportunity to hear the composer through the sound of one of Iran’s principal symphonic ensembles.
“Figaro” will be performed at Vahdat Hall in Tehran on Sept. 15 and 16 at 9:30 p.m.
