Turkish Ambassador Named Honorary Member of Persian Language Academy
TEHRAN — Hicabi Kırlangıç, Türkiye’s ambassador to Iran, has been named an honorary member of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature in recognition of his academic work on Persian language and literature and his translations of major Persian literary works into Turkish.
Kırlangıç received his honorary membership certificate during a meeting in Tehran with Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, president of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature. The Turkish Embassy identifies Kırlangıç as Türkiye’s ambassador in Tehran, while Ankara University lists him as a professor specializing in Persian language, literature and culture.
Haddad-Adel praised Kırlangıç’s efforts to strengthen cultural and academic ties between Iran and Türkiye, particularly his work in teaching Persian and translating classical and contemporary Persian literature.
“Your translations of the heritage of Persian literature, including the Masnavi, Saadi’s Bustan and Gulistan, and particularly your complete translation of Hafez Shirazi’s Divan into Turkish, have helped introduce Persian literature to a wider audience in Türkiye,” Haddad-Adel said.
He said the academy had honored Kırlangıç for his academic work in teaching and researching Persian language and literature, as well as for translating classical and contemporary Iranian literary works.
Haddad-Adel also said the Iranian Embassy in Türkiye had been asked to organize an academic gathering attended by Persian-language scholars and enthusiasts, where Kırlangıç’s membership certificate could be formally presented and his contribution to Iranian literary and academic life recognized before a wider Turkish audience.
Kırlangıç welcomed the distinction,
saying he was proud to have been accepted as a member of the academy and expressing his gratitude to its scholars.
With his diplomatic assignment in Iran coming to an end, Kırlangıç said he would return to Türkiye as an ambassador for Iranian literature and culture.
The ambassador also said he had been working for several years on a Turkish translation of Rumi’s Divan-e Shams and hoped to complete the project as soon as possible.
Born in 1966, Kırlangıç is a scholar, poet and translator specializing in Persian language and literature. He has translated Rumi’s Masnavi, Saadi’s Bustan and Gulistan, Jami’s Subhat al-Abrar and the contemporary Iranian literary history A Hundred Years of Fiction Writing in Iran into Turkish.
