TEHRAN - Iran won one gold and one bronze medal on the fifth day of the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan, taking its overall medal tally to 15.
Mostafa Toghani claimed gold in the over-100kg division of Pahlavani wrestling after defeating a wrestler from host Kyrgyzstan by fall in the final.
Mersad Shakeri also won bronze in Kurash, beating an opponent from Turkmenistan 5-4 in the third-place match.
By the end of Day 5, Iran had collected 15 medals across the Games.
Gold medalists: Reza Gheitasi in mas-wrestling, Sajjad Soltaninejad in strongman, Mostafa Najafi in Alysh/Gyulesh wrestling, and Mostafa Toghani in Pahlavani wrestling.
Silver medalists: Sadegh Azarang in Kurash, Mohsen Mirzaei in right-arm wrestling, and Iran’s four-member tug-of-war team of Nader Kazemi, Sajjad Jafari Gohari, Abbas Azimi and Hamidreza Saeid.
Bronze medalists: Maryam Farahaninia in mas-wrestling, Abolfazl Heydarimehr in Alysh, Mohaddeseh Tabarok in both right- and left-arm wrestling, Amirreza Sahraei in Seryum wrestling, Hassan Pouladi in the men’s -64kg sambo event, Pouria Shokri in Kazakh Kuresi, and Mersad Shakeri in Kurash.
The World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan will continue through Sunday.
