OCCUPIED PALESTINE (Dispatches) – Three Israeli reservists cleared of gang-raping a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman military prison are now suing the Israeli regime for 18 million shekels ($6 million) in compensation, in a brazen display of impunity that human rights groups say exposes the occupation’s systematic protection of war criminals.
The reservists, part of the military’s “Force 100” unit responsible for supervising Palestinians abducted during Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, filed the lawsuit through the right-wing legal organization Honenu. 
The suit targets the Israeli regime, the army, the military police, the Israel police, the attorney general, the former military advocate general, and a journalist who first exposed the crime.
The five reservists were indicted in February 2025 for an assault that took place on July 5, 2024, in which a blindfolded and handcuffed Palestinian detainee was kicked, stomped, beaten with clubs, dragged on the ground and tasered repeatedly, including on the head, for approximately 15 minutes. 
One soldier stabbed the detainee near his anus with a sharp object, tearing his rectum. The victim suffered seven fractured ribs, a punctured lung and significant internal injuries requiring surgery on his large intestine and the creation of a stoma.
The attack was captured on video and aired by Channel 12 in August 2024, sparking global outrage. The UN human rights office described the footage as “shocking.”
Despite the video evidence, Israel’s military advocate general dismissed the charges, citing a “lack of key evidence” following the victim’s return to Gaza. Terrorist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the decision, stating that Israel “must pursue its enemies, not its heroic fighters.”
The Public Committee Against Torture in Israeli occupied territories condemned the acquittal as a “whitewash” that granted soldiers “a license to rape.” 
Now, just months after being exonerated for raping a Palestinian man, three of the reservists are demanding millions in compensation from the very regime that cleared them, effectively asking the genocidal entity to pay for their crimes.
Human rights organizations have long documented Israel’s systemic abuse of Palestinian detainees, including torture, starvation and denial of medical care. Approximately 60 percent of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails suffer from chronic illnesses, and dozens have died in custody or shortly after release due to inhumane conditions.
The lawsuit represents an obscene inversion of justice: rapists demanding payment while their victim remains in Gaza, likely subjected to further Israeli bombardment. The Israeli regime’s decision to exonerate the soldiers was not an anomaly but a reflection of a system that considers Palestinian lives worthless and Palestinian dignity a joke.
By granting the terrorists legal cover and now entertaining their compensation claims, Israel is sending a clear message to its soldiers: rape Palestinians with impunity, and the state will not only protect you — it will pay you.
