‘Shattering’ Response to U.S. Airstrikes in Southern Iran
TEHRAN — Iran’s armed forces vowed to inflict “crushing and shattering blows” on the United States in response to American airstrikes targeting sites in the southern provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan, the country’s military command said in a statement Tuesday.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi revealed that the attacks were launched from within the territory of
the United Arab Emirates, declaring that the use of neighboring soil for strikes against Iran is “completely unacceptable.”
“Last night, they attacked Kharg Island and Abu Musa Island using Himars, a short-range missile system,” Araghchi said in remarks reported by Iranian media.
He added that Iranian forces have identified the launch points. “It has now been determined that they were launched from the UAE from two locations: Ras Al Khaimah and an area very close to Dubai,” he stated.
Araghchi emphasized the danger posed by using densely populated areas as launch sites. “Using heavily populated areas to launch missiles toward us is extremely dangerous,” the foreign minister warned.
“The terrorist American army, no matter how much it insists on mischief in the region, must endure more and heavier losses,” read the statement issued by the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters.
The military command emphasized that it has “repeatedly declared and resolved” that it will not compromise on the rights of the Iranian people “under any circumstances” and will impose “heavy costs” on the American enemy.
The announcement came after U.S. warplanes and Himars systems struck Kharg Island, Abu Musa Island, a fish powder factory on Qeshm Island, a fishing pier, and a port administration tower in Sirik along Iran’s southern coastline, according to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) spokesman.
“A harsh punishment awaits the aggressors,” IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohabi wrote on social media. “America will regret its new attacks.”
U.S. embassies in occupied Al-Quds, Qatar, and Jordan issued security alerts for American citizens, citing “tensions in the Middle East” and warning that the security situation in the region remains “complex” with a “possibility of escalation.”
