Iran Finish Second at Asian Functional Fitness Championship With 4 Gold Medals
TEHRAN - Iran’s national functional fitness team clinched second place overall at the 2026 Asian Functional Fitness Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan, securing four gold, one silver, and one bronze medal across individual and team events.
Competing from August 12 to 17 in Astana, the Iranian men’s and women’s functional fitness delegations finished behind host nation Kazakhstan to claim the runner-up title in the Asian Championship, while Jordan finished third.
In the men’s division, Shaho Hassanzadeh and Muhammad Meisam Rouhani secured the gold medal in the team event. In the individual competitions, Ali Taheri won gold in the 35–39 age category, while Ahmad Ali Shabanpour took gold in the under-18 division. Overall, the men’s squad earned two individual gold medals and one team gold medal.
In the women’s division, Zahra Bahrami Rad earned a silver medal in the elite category. The duo of Negin Najafi and Zahra Moheb Heidari claimed bronze in the two-person team competition, while Zahra Shirkhanloo won gold in the under-18 age group. In total, the women’s squad concluded the championship with one individual gold, one individual silver, and one team bronze medal.
Combined, the Iranian men’s and women’s national functional fitness teams achieved a total of three individual golds, one individual silver, one team gold, and one team bronze medal.
The men’s team comprised Farshid Amarloo, Shaho Hassanzadeh, Omid Hadian, Mohammad Meisam Rouhani, Pourya Mohammadi, Hossein Karami, Ali Taheri, Seyed Ahmad Aghaei Meybodi, and Ahmad Ali Shabanpour, guided by Head Coach Arya Kazemi Mehr.
The women’s squad featured Negin Najafi, Zeinab Marouyan Hosseini, Zahra Bahrami Rad, Zahra Moheb Heidari, Mahsa Arameshi Ardebili, and Zahra Shirkhanloo, under Head Coach Abrisham Arjmandkhah.
The delegation was headed by Asgar Azadian, with Amir Mohajan serving as National Teams Director.
