Israel Orders Eviction of Over 70 Palestinian Families in Lod
RAMALLAH (Dispatches) -- Israeli authorities have issued eviction orders to more than 70 Palestinian families in the Al-Mahatta neighborhood of Lod, ahead of planned demolitions, according to Palestinian local sources.
Residents said the orders were issued with short deadlines, in some cases giving families no more than a week to leave their homes. Families in the neighborhood say they have lived in the area since before the fabrication of Israel in 1948, with some describing their homes and community as representing nearly a century of family history.
