GAZA STRIP (Dispatches) -- A new poll by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) found that 72 percent of Palestinians oppose the disarmament of Hamas before Israel completes its withdrawal from the besieged Gaza Strip.
The survey showed that 72 percent of Palestinians believe Israel would resume its genocide in Gaza as soon as Hamas gave up its arms, while maintaining and expanding its occupation of the strip.
Around 40 percent of respondents said they expect “the current situation to continue, with some continued killings,” even after Hamas accepted a proposal put forward by the U.S.-backed “Board of Peace,” while only 30 percent believe the near-daily killings will stop enough for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) to assume control and for rebuilding to start. 
Despite the near-unanimous view on disarmament, an overwhelming majority want Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas out of office – a demand that has barely moved in three years. 
A similar share treats corruption inside PA bodies as a given, while a solid majority counts the authority as a weight on the national cause rather than a gain.
Asked who should replace Abbas, respondents named Marwan Barghouti, who has been held in Israeli prison for more than 20 years, by a wide margin over every other figure on the list. 
The survey also showed Palestinians overwhelmingly distrust the Board of Peace overseeing U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan. 
In the occupied West Bank, almost all expect Israel’s Illegal settlement expansion, annexation and the seizure of Palestinian land and homes to continue. 
Few see relief in Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s potential departure, with respondents split between those expecting Israeli policy to stay the same under an opposition regime, those expecting it to get worse, and those expecting improvement.
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Board of Peace envoy Nickolay Mladenov are due in Israeli occupied territories next week allegedly to press Netanyahu into letting the disarmament plan move forward.
Netanyahu announced on August 9 that Israel rejects the 15-point document put forward by Trump’s Board of Peace, which calls for Israeli forces to withdraw from Gaza and for Hamas to surrender its weapons. 
The announcement contradicted Trump’s July 31 claim of a “historic breakthrough” with Hamas on phased disarmament matched by Israeli withdrawals. Netanyahu said no withdrawal will take place until Hamas gives up every weapon, heavy and light, and reiterated that he will never accept a Palestinian state in Gaza or the occupied West Bank.
