TEHRAN — Tehran’s art institutions are hosting a series of cultural events this week, including a discussion on artificial intelligence and art, a national mobile photography campaign, and new exhibitions featuring works by young and contemporary artists.
The first session of a series titled “Art and Artificial Intelligence” will be held on July 21 at the library hall of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, focusing on “AI Art at the Venice Biennale I.”
The session will examine the growing relationship between artistic practice and artificial intelligence, exploring how AI has introduced new possibilities and challenges for contemporary art.
Fariba Soltani and Elham Koutzeri will present the session, which will be moderated by Dr. Meysam Roshani.
Organizers said the program aims to introduce significant examples of artificial intelligence-based artworks from around the world and provide an opportunity to study the artistic, technological and conceptual aspects of the emerging medium.
Meanwhile, the deadline for the mobile photography and short-film campaign “Tolou-e Mah” (Moonrise) has been extended until July 29 following public interest.
The campaign, organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society in cooperation with the Islamic Culture and Communication Organization, is being held in two categories — mobile short film and photography — with the aim of documenting public, historical and international aspects of farewell ceremonies for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Professional and amateur photographers and filmmakers can submit their works through the campaign’s official festival platform until the extended deadline. The closing ceremony and announcement of winners will be held on August 19.
In another cultural event, the sixth exhibition of young artists titled “Rad-e Vojud” (Trace of Existence) opened at the Mahmoud Farshchian Gallery of the Saba Cultural, Artistic and Research Institute in Tehran.
The exhibition features 62 selected works chosen from among 100 submissions. The displayed works cover a wide range of artistic fields, including sculpture, miniature painting, scratchboard, carpet art, metal engraving, embroidery, photography, stained glass, traditional patterns, drawing, mosaic, macramé, painting and illumination.
The exhibition runs until July 22. The Summer Gallery of the Iran Artists Forum has also opened a solo exhibition by calligraphy-painter Bardia Shahsavari titled “Aftabgardān” (Sunflower).
The exhibition presents a selection of Shahsavari’s calligraphy-painting works centered on Persian letters and varied color compositions. It marks the artist’s first solo exhibition after previous participation in group shows dedicated to calligraphy, calligraphy-painting and abstract calligraphy.
The exhibition will remain open until July 24.
