Two Iranian Freestyle Wrestlers Reach Asian Youth Finals
TEHRAN - Iranian freestyle wrestlers in the first five weight classes of the Asian Youth Championships have secured chances for two gold medals and one bronze.
In the first five weight classes of the Asian Youth Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Thailand, Amirreza Timourizad (65kg) and Sobhan Esmi (79kg) advanced to the finals after defeating their opponents. Sajad Pirdadeh (70kg) reached the bronze medal match, while Erfan Siri (57kg) and Danial Tavakoli (97kg) were eliminated from the competition.
In the 57kg weight class, Erfan Siri lost 6-0 to Kyrgyzstan’s Temirbekov in the first round and was eliminated following his opponent’s subsequent defeat.
In the 65kg class, Amirreza Timourizad won 10-0 against South Korea’s Go in the first round. He then defeated Tajikistan’s Muhammadjan Saidov 10-0 and advanced to the semifinals, where he beat Japan’s Ita Shimoda 10-4 to reach the final.
In the 70kg class, Sajad Pirdadeh lost 6-3 to Kazakhstan’s Saidakhmet in the first round but was brought back into the repechage after his opponent reached the final. He then defeated China’s Wang 10-0 to advance to the bronze medal match, where he will face Japan’s Sukigawa.
In the 79kg class, Sobhan Esmi won 10-0 against Japan’s Mizusaki in the first round. He then beat Mongolia’s Javkhlankhu 10-0 and advanced to the semifinals, where he defeated Turkmenistan’s Vatan Anaurazov 12-1 to reach the final.
In the 97kg class, Danial Tavakoli lost 8-5 to India’s Laki in the first round and was eliminated following his opponent’s subsequent defeat to the Chinese wrestler in the semifinals.
Earlier on Friday, the Iranian national junior team claimed the Greco-Roman team crown at the championships after collecting nine medals in Pattaya, Thailand.
Iran finished atop the standings with 190 points, securing five gold, one silver and three bronze medals during the Greco-Roman competition.
