BAGHDAD (Dispatches) -- A senior Iraqi politician has exposed the sinister motives behind U.S. envoy Tom Barrack’s recent visit to Baghdad, stating that Washington wants to eliminate the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) because it views the resistance fighters as an obstacle to its destabilizing schemes.
Ali al-Zubaidi, a member of Iraq’s Coordination Framework, said Barrack’s visit is part of an American-Israeli project to weaken the PMU’s role in security institutions. The PMU is a government-sanctioned security apparatus that has made great sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, he said, adding that all attempts to disband or weaken the forces are doomed to failure.
