Three Iranian Films Shine on International Stage

TEHRAN -- In a banner week for Iranian independent cinema, three productions have garnered major recognition at top-tier international festivals.
The short film These Voices Are Real, written and directed by Baran Nikrah and co-produced by Nikrah and Hoda Zeinolabedin, has secured four awards across its first two international festival appearances—a remarkable debut for Nikrah’s maiden directorial effort.
The social drama, which explores the lived experiences of women and girls within Iran’s societal structures, earned a Special Audience Award and the festival’s special “Raspen Spirit” Award at the 38th Minimalen International Film Festival in Trondheim, Norway. The prestigious Scandinavian short-film event also awarded the film an Honorable Mention in the international competition.
Continuing its run, These Voices Are Real won Best Director at the Golden Grape Short Film Festival and recently screened to strong audience response in the competitive section of SXSW London.

‘I Won’t Be Alone’ Wins Top Prize at Italy’s Pasinetti Festival

The documentary I Won’t Be Alone, directed by Yaser Talebi and produced by Fariba Arab and Talebi, has received the Premio Francesco Pasinetti for Best

Film at the 23rd Pasinetti Film Festival in Italy. The award, the festival’s highest honor, was selected from over 2,000 submissions worldwide.
Jury members praised the film for its “rare depth and subtlety,” chronicling an elderly couple’s painful yet redemptive decision to donate their brain-dead child’s organs. “A work full of love and empathy that transcends cultural boundaries,” the jury wrote, citing the film’s sensitive cinematography and its intimate meditation on grief, memory, and the endurance of love. The documentary revisits the family five years later to trace how that choice reshaped their worldview and lives.
