TEHRAN -- Tehran’s City Theater complex has launched its new season with a diverse lineup of seven productions, signaling a vibrant return for the capital’s performing arts scene. 
The season features works across the Main Hall, Chaharsu, Qashqai, Sayeh, and Workshop stages, offering audiences a wide range of theatrical experiences.
The Main Hall is hosting Yellow Wind of Van Gogh, written and directed by Alireza Koushk Jalali, starring Farhad Ayish, Shaghayegh Farahani, and Hamid Goudarzi. The 90-minute production runs nightly at 7:30 p.m., with tickets priced at 5,000,000 rials.
In the Chaharsu Hall, Finger Food, by Noushin Tabrizi and directed by Sima Tirandaz, featuring Fahimeh Amanzadeh and Maral Jamalpanah, opens Thursday at 8 p.m. and runs 80 minutes with tickets at 3,000,000 rials. Taratina, by Alireza Kolahchian, opens January 7 in Qashqai Hall at 6 p.m. with a 65-minute runtime and a 2,500,000 rial ticket. That venue will also host Big Game, written and directed by Zohreh Behrouzinia, starting January 5 at 8 p.m.
Sayeh Hall continues its season with Killing Mozart or Eating the Octopus’s Leg, directed by Arash Sanjabi, and The Butcher, by Nicholas B. Youn, directed by Shahoo Rostami. Both productions have received strong audience attention since late December. Meanwhile, the Workshop stage debuts After a Show, written by Ali Khodsiyani and directed by Maryam Yousef, starting January 4.
Not far from City Theater, Nofel Loshato Mansion continues to present popular shows including Cell, which has been extended through the end of January due to high demand. Directed by Mohsen Zarrabadipour, Cell follows two prison guards who spend Yalda Night with death-row inmates. Starting January 7, the mansion will host Tennessee Williams’ American Dream, translated by the late Hamid Samandarian and directed by Ali Hazrati, exploring the struggles of the Wingfield family during the 1930s.
Other productions at Nofel Loshato include Feast of the Butterfly King by Sina Salimi, Baccara by Ali Asghari, and Dialectic by Rahman Khoobzadeh, offering audiences a mix of comedy, drama, and experimental theater.
On the festival front, the first Nahid Star Theater Festival has announced its playwriting jury: Jalal Tehrani, Rouzbeh Husseini, and Ali Abedi. Winners of the “Master Moein Award” will be revealed at the festival’s closing ceremony in Anzali Free Zone on January 2.
Additionally, the 7th City Theater Festival has named its 10 nominated plays, including works such as Expelled by Hamed Mehrandish, Without Orbit by Farank Karimi, and Ekbatan by Ehsan Neghaban and Milad Zahoorian. Winners will be recognized at the festival’s conclusion, which runs from December 19 to January 4.
With multiple venues showcasing a mix of classic adaptations, contemporary plays, and festival highlights, Tehran’s theater scene is demonstrating renewed energy and ambition this season.
