TEHRAN — The commander of Iran’s Navy on Saturday highlighted the expansion of the force’s operational reach from the Strait of Hormuz to the northern Persian Gulf and now into distant waters and oceans, attributing these achievements to domestic capabilities and the sacrifices of the country’s martyrs.
Rear Admiral Shahram Irani made the remarks during a ceremony at the Imam Khomeini Naval University in Nowshahr marking Student Day, underscoring the Navy’s historical role in safeguarding Iran’s maritime borders. 
“The Navy is a vital and decisive force,” he said, citing statements by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. “This distinction is the result of the pure blood of martyrs and the historic dedication of this force.”
Admiral Irani emphasized that over the past 45 years, Iran’s Navy has established foundational structures that have strengthened the country’s maritime power in unprecedented ways. 
He noted that in 1401 (2022-2023), the Navy was formally recognized as a comprehensive naval force. Through operations such as the successful deployment of the 86th naval flotilla in international waters, the Navy reinforced its position as a leading component of Iran’s armed forces.
The commander also highlighted the critical roles of the Navy’s political and ideological departments, as well as intelligence units, which he said have contributed significantly to the force’s current capabilities. 
“Today, we are present on the global stage and have a strong voice in defense diplomacy,” Admiral Irani added.
During the ceremony, he announced that December 30 will be officially recognized as “Three Iranian Islands Day,” marking a milestone in the country’s maritime identity. 
He described the expansion of the Navy’s command coverage—from the Strait of Hormuz to the northern Persian Gulf, and now to distant waters and oceans—as a reflection of the combined efforts of domestic expertise and the sacrifices of martyrs.
Admiral Irani cited the Navy’s operational successes in past conflicts, including the 12-day war and other critical missions, noting that despite external pressures and threats, all operations were carried out successfully. 
“Just as we stood firm during the eight-year Sacred Defense, today the country’s security remains steadfast,” he said.
He also praised the Imam Khomeini Naval University, which has trained naval personnel for 45 years, describing it as an internationally recognized institution that combines academic excellence with operational readiness. 
According to the commander, the university exemplifies the integration of scientific and practical training, providing skilled officers capable of meeting modern naval challenges.
Addressing students, Admiral Irani encouraged them to embrace the responsibilities ahead. “A heavy responsibility rests on your shoulders. The future of the Navy will be shaped by you, and I hope that, with the guidance of commanders, your path will shine even brighter than before,” he said.
Through a combination of strategic planning, domestic expertise, and dedication to its personnel, the Iranian Navy continues to play a key role in regional security and international maritime operations.
