Abu Qubeis Under Siege: Israeli Tanks Invade Southern Syria
DAMASCUS (Dispatches) --
Israeli tanks and armored vehicles rolled into southern Syria again Monday, targeting Abu Qubeis hill in Quneitra province.
A unit of three tanks and two Humvees stormed the area near Ein Zivan, flagrantly violating Syrian sovereignty.
This latest incursion comes after a brutal attack on Beit Jinn, where Israeli helicopters and drones killed at least 13 civilians, including children, and wounded dozens more. Six Israeli soldiers were reportedly injured, underscoring the chaotic violence of the raid.
Since the fall of Assad’s government, Israel has ruthlessly exploited Syria’s political and security vacuum, striking military installations, destroying air defenses, and seizing strategic areas such as the highlands of Jabal al-Shaykh.
These repeated assaults are part of a calculated campaign to fragment Syria, terrorize its population, and assert domination over the region.
The tragedy is compounded by the role of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the de facto rulers of Syria, led by Abu Muhammad al-Jolani. HTS has proven feckless in the face of repeated Israeli aggression.
Instead of defending Syrian civilians or resisting the invaders, Jolani has issued groveling calls for normalization with Israel, signaling submission rather than resistance. The so-called HTS foreign ministry has issued condemnations of the attacks, but they ring hollow—empty words that fail to stop Israel or protect the people under their control.
Israeli media admit that troops were caught off guard during Beit Jinn, forcing a temporary withdrawal, yet Tel Aviv used the episode to intensify airstrikes and raids.
Civilians continue to pay the price as Israel combines overwhelming military force with political manipulation, exploiting Syria’s internal chaos and HTS’s weakness.
Southern Syria now stands as a stark example of foreign aggression enabled by internal cowardice.
HTS’s hollow condemnations, Jolani’s failure to resist, and Israel’s relentless military campaigns have left the population trapped between occupation, extremist militias, and escalating violence.
The people of southern Syria face the deadly consequences of aggression and feckless governance, with no protection from either foreign invaders or their supposed rulers.
