Oman, Iran Discuss Strategic Ties as Minister Busaidi Visits Tehran
TEHRAN – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday received Omani Interior Minister Hamoud bin Faisal bin Said Al Busaidi here, highlighting longstanding diplomatic and strategic ties between the two countries.
President Pezeshkian emphasized the “deep and historic” relationship between Iran and Oman, describing bilateral interactions as grounded in brotherhood, mutual respect, and goodwill.
He said the two nations have consistently supported each other through regional challenges, underscoring a history of cooperation amid shifting geopolitical landscapes.
Pezeshkian praised Oman’s role in regional diplomacy, particularly its efforts in mediation and hosting indirect dialogues between Tehran and Washington, describing the country’s approach as measured and committed to peace.
He also highlighted Oman’s support for Palestinians in Gaza, condemning human rights violations and acts of violence by Israel.
“This humanitarian and Islamic stance by Oman is highly valuable. As Muslims, we appreciate this solidarity,” Pezeshkian said, adding that broader support from Muslim nations could prevent ongoing crises in the region.
The Iranian president stressed the importance of unity among Muslim nations, citing religious teachings emphasizing solidarity and collective action.
Pezeshkian said adherence to these principles could strengthen the Muslim world, protect national interests, and safeguard regional security.
He expressed hope that Busaidi’s visit would further strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation across scientific, economic, cultural, social, and political sectors.
Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s readiness to deepen engagement with Oman and highlighted the potential for the visit to advance existing partnerships.
Busaidi, speaking at the meeting, described relations between Iran and Oman as unique, deep, and transparent. He referred to Pezeshkian’s visit to Muscat five months ago and said the resulting agreements underscored a clear path for continued collaboration.
The Omani minister praised Iran’s efforts to strengthen relations with Muslim-majority countries, including Oman, noting that such initiatives have been consistently maintained over decades. He said Oman shares this approach, emphasizing goodwill and brotherhood in its engagement with Tehran.
Busaidi added that both nations aim to continue fostering a robust and resilient relationship and that Oman is committed to further deepening strategic cooperation.
Later on Monday, Busaidi met with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani.
According to statements from the council, both sides discussed enhancing economic relations and broadening cooperation across political, security, and military domains. They also emphasized the importance of regional coordination to advance shared interests.
Larijani acknowledged Oman’s
balanced and constructive role in regional developments and highlighted the potential to leverage the capacities of both countries to strengthen economic and security cooperation at a strategic level.
Discussions covered avenues for deepening coordination on regional challenges, joint initiatives, and mechanisms for advancing mutual interests.
During the visit, Busaidi formally invited Larijani to travel to Muscat, describing the invitation as an important step toward reinforcing long-term bilateral ties.
