Atiyeh Sadat Husseini Makes History With First-Ever Women’s Para Powerlifting Gold

THERAN - Iranian para powerlifter Atiyeh Sadat Husseini made history after winning the country’s first-ever women’s gold medal at the World Para Powerlifting Championships.
The young Iranian athlete claimed the title in the women’s 61 kg category on Friday, the second day of the youth section of the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships, in Cairo.
Husseini successfully lifted 85 kg and 90 kg in her first two attempts. Although she missed her final lift of 94 kg, her earlier performance was enough to secure the gold medal and the top spot on the podium—marking a historic first for Iranian women’s para powerlifting.
Mani Saeedi also won Iran’s second gold medal in the youth category of the World Para Weightlifting Championships.
In 88 kg category, Mani Saeedi managed to win the gold medal and the world championship title.
The youth competition, featuring 124 athletes from 28 National Paralympic Committees, is taking place over two consecutive days.
Seven men and one woman represent Iran in the youth division.
The elite division of the championship runs from October 11 to 17.
