India, Iran, Uzbekistan Hold First Trilateral Political Consultations
TEHRAN — Iran hosted the first round of trilateral political consultations with India and Uzbekistan, aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and connectivity, the Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement.
The meeting, held in Tehran at the level of Directors-General for Regional Affairs, was attended by Muhammad Reza Bahrami, Director-General for South Asia at Iran’s Foreign Ministry; Anand Prakash, Regional Director at India’s Ministry of External Affairs; and Ghulamjon Pirimkulov, Director-General for Cooperation with South Asian, Middle Eastern and African Countries at Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The three sides expressed satisfaction with the launch of the trilateral format and agreed to hold the meeting on a regular annual basis, the statement said, adding that the consultations aim to serve mutual interests and promote regional prosperity.
The delegations discussed expanding cooperation in transport and connectivity, with particular emphasis on the strategic role of regional ports and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). They also reviewed progress made during the third Chabahar Working Group meeting held in Mumbai in November 2024.
The three countries also exchanged views on regional issues and explored ways to enhance cooperation in the fight against extremism and terrorism, the statement added.
