Mehdi Kazemi Defeats Venezuelan Boxer in World Championships
TEHRAN - The Iranian national boxer, Mehdi Kazemi has defeated an opponent from Venezuela in his first fight at the world championships in Liverpool, England.
In the 55kg weight category, Mehdi Kazemi faced a rest in the first draw and on Sunday, he faced a boxer from Venezuela in the first fight and managed to defeat the representative from Venezuela one-sidedly in three rounds.
The competition featuring 10 weight classes for men and women, and it will be the first time ever that male and female boxers have competed in Olympic-style boxing at the same event.
Liverpool has a long history of staging major international events and was selected as the host of the competition following a successful bid that was developed by a group of partners which included England Boxing, GB Boxing, Liverpool City Council and the M&S Bank Arena, with the support of the National Lottery and UK Sport.
