Wushu Athletes to Compete in World Championships in Brazil
TEHRAN - The Iranian Wushu National Team will compete at the 17th World Wushu Championships in Brasilia, Brazil.
The team is included with eight national athletes representing the country.
Women’s Sanda
65 kg: Sedighe Daraya will face Hadi Aya from Tunisia in the first round.
Weight 70 kg: Soheila Mansouriyan will fight Riah Simond from Bermuda in the first round.
Weight 75 kg: Shahrbanou Mansouriyan will face Aya Mohamed from Egypt in the first round.
Men’s Sanda
65kg: Shoja Panahi will face Surya Singh of India in the first round.
70kg: Erfan Moharmi has been drawn in the first round and will face Vadim Shum of Ukraine in the next round.
75kg: Mohsen Muhammad Seifi, the captain of the Iranian team, has been drawn in the first round and will face Juan Asensio of France in the second round.
80kg: Soheil Mousavi will face Fabio Gijoni of Italy in the first round.
In the 90kg category, which has been drawn in a group, Mehdi Moradi will first face Sardar Yurakulev of Turkmenistan and then fight Cruz Perez of Mexico.
Organised by the International Wushu Federation and hosted by the Brazilian Wushu Federation, the championships are the sport’s highest-level competition, featuring taolu and sanda.
National teams from around the world will participate, continuing the tradition that began with the inaugural edition in Beijing, China in 1991. The biennial tournament has since been staged 16 times. – James Kon
