Bagheri Kani Takes Senior Role at Supreme National Security Council
TEHRAN – Ali Bagheri Kani, a senior diplomat and former nuclear negotiator, has been appointed as the Deputy for International Affairs at Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). His appointment was announced by Ali Larijani, the newly appointed Secretary of the SNSC.
Bagheri Kani, who has a long track record in diplomatic and strategic roles, participated in his first official meeting in his new role on Saturday, attending discussions between Larijani and Armenia’s Security Council Secretary, Armen Grigoryan.
Bagheri Kani, widely recognized for his leadership during the Vienna talks aimed at reviving the 2015 nuclear deal, has previously held several high-level positions in Iran’s foreign policy apparatus.
Notably, he served as the caretaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Deputy Political Director during the previous administration. He also has extensive experience in strategic decision-making, having been a key member of the Strategic Council for Foreign Relations and its secretariat.
His experience further extends to the judicial branch of Iran, where he held the role of Deputy for International Affairs at the Iranian Judiciary. He also served as Secretary of the Human Rights Headquarters, a body tasked with overseeing Iran’s human rights policies and engagements.
In his new role at the SNSC, Bagheri Kani is expected to play a key part in shaping Iran’s foreign policy and security strategies, particularly in navigating the country’s relations with regional and global powers.
His appointment follows a series of changes within the country’s security apparatus as Iran continues to confront shifting geopolitical dynamics.
As Deputy for International Affairs, Bagheri Kani is poised to play a critical role in advancing Iran’s foreign policy agenda and navigating the complex geopolitical landscape.
