Spy Web Torn Apart: 20 Mossad Agents Captured
TEHRAN – Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir confirmed on Saturday that 20 individuals suspected of espionage and supporting Mossad activities have been arrested in Tehran and other provinces. The cases are currently under investigation.
Speaking at a press briefing, Jahangir emphasized the complexity of espionage cases, noting that such investigations require careful scrutiny to balance national security with the rights of the accused.
“While those detained may initially be suspected of espionage, these suspicions may be disproven as investigations proceed,” he said. “It is essential to respect due process and ensure no one is unjustly condemned, while also protecting the rights of the nation.”
The arrests follow a recent statement from the Ministry of Intelligence, which disclosed the detainment of these alleged agents linked to Israel’s intelligence service. Jahangir confirmed that judicial authorities have promptly opened cases and are working closely with prosecutors to advance the investigations.
Some of the cases date back to the period leading up to and during the brief 12-day war, where detainees reportedly confessed to intelligence-gathering operations in support of hostile forces. “Those found to have collaborated operationally or in support of the Israeli regime have been or will be legally prosecuted,” Jahangir said.
At the same time, he acknowledged that some detainees’ charges have shifted or been dismissed as investigations clarified that their activities were unrelated to espionage or foreign collaboration.
Jahangir assured the public that Iran’s judiciary will take a firm stance against anyone found guilty of spying or aiding Israel, warning that the forthcoming verdicts will serve as a deterrent.
“We will not show leniency,” he stated, “and these sentences will stand as a historic lesson for all spies and agents of the Zionist regime.”
As investigations continue behind closed doors, Iranian authorities have pledged to release more detailed information once the legal processes are complete.
