Women Sitting Volleyball Down Japan in PVAO Championships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated Japan in straight sets (25-8, 25-17, 25-22) in the 2025 PVAO Sitting Volleyball Championships on Monday.
Competing in Women’s Pool A are Korea, Thailand and hosts China, while Pool B consists of Australia, Iran, Japan and Mongolia.
On Monday, Iran defeated the Philippines 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 15-13) in the event
Team Melli Banovan had defeated Indonesia 3-2 and New Zealand 3-1 in its previous matches.
The Preliminary Round started on June 9 and runs through June 11 as teams compete in a single round-robin format to determine rankings per pool.
Iran will play Kazakhstan on Wednesday.
Teams then head into a rest and recovery day on Thursday, June 12, with enough time and energy for the top two teams in each pool to play off in the semi-finals on Friday, June 13.
The winners’ trophy will be up for grabs at the title matches on Saturday, June 14, but contenders will likewise await the confirmation of the two best ranked teams (with the exception of the hosts) to qualify directly for the 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships.
Pool A features Vietnam, Australia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and India.
The Nations Cup is being held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from June 7 to June 14.
