End to Israeli Atrocities in Syria Needs Int’l Action, Iran Says

TEHRAN – Iran on Saturday strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Syria, stressing the need for immediate action by the international community to end the atrocities of the Zionist regime.
In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei vehemently condemned Israeli strikes on various parts of Syria that have destroyed civilian sites and defense facilities in Damascus, Latakia, Idlib, Hama, Quneitra and Daraa.
It has now become clear that the Zionist regime seeks to destroy the defense, economic and infrastructural capabilities of Syria as a sovereign state in order to pursue its sinister objectives in the Arab country and the region, and at the same time continue with genocidal crimes in Palestine and commit acts of aggression against Lebanon, he said.
The spokesman also reiterated Iran’s principled and unchanging policy of stressing the need to protect Syria’s territorial integrity, dignity and national sovereignty as an independent state and a great nation that is influential in the security and stability of the West Asia region.
Baghaei reminded all involved parties of their responsibility in the formation of the status quo in Syria after the ground was prepared for the Israeli regime to carry out its abusive and expansionist policies in Syria.
“The cessation of the Zionist regime’s bellicosity and acts of aggression against Syria requires immediate and effective action by the international community, specifically the regional countries. Accordingly, it is necessary for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to employ the existing mechanisms to compel the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its duty in the face of lawbreaking and violation of peace by the Israeli regime,” the spokesman said.
The Israeli regime on Friday launched several military strikes across Syria, including around Damascus and its vicinity, as well as in the countryside of Hama.
Separately, Baghaei called the U.S. military aggression a clear violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Baghaei emphasized that the attacks are war crimes and crimes against humanity because they target

residential areas and vital infrastructure in Yemen.
The spokesman expressed regret over the inaction of the United Nations and the UN Security Council in response to the U.S.’s blatant violation of international law.
He condemned Washington’s continued aggression against Yemen, along with the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the West Bank and the Zionist regime’s terrorist actions against Lebanon.
Baghaei said that the attacks are contributing to the increasing insecurity in the West Asian region.
They, he added, remind all countries in the region of the shared responsibility to confront the Zionist regime and the U.S.
Yemen’s Ansarullah movement also denounced the strike as a “brutal crime,” saying Washington is deliberately targeting civilians under the guise of military operations.
