U.S. Poll Finds Increasing Support for Pressure on Israel
WASHINGTON (Dispatches) – The U.S.-based Arab American Institute (AAI) said a recent poll found that a growing number of voters, including typically pro-Israel Republicans, believe that U.S. support for the Zionist regime is too one-sided and that more should be done to pressure the regime into concessions on Gaza and Lebanon.
“The April findings demonstrate a substantial increase in Republicans who agree that the (U.S.) president should apply such pressure on Israel,” the AAI said in a press release.
“In 2024, the agree/disagree split for Republicans was 37 percent to 40 percent. Now 49 percent agreed that greater pressure should be applied, as opposed to only 29 percent disagreed.”
The poll also found that a plurality of voters agree with The International Criminal Court (ICC) finding that the Zionist regime’s actions in Gaza amount to genocidal acts by 44 percent to 28 percent. Among Democrats, 54 percent agreed and only 15 percent disagreed, while among Republicans, it was a narrower 38 percent and 36 percent, respectively.
According to a survey, which was conducted by Zeteo and Data for Progress ,71 percent of likely Democratic Party primary voters believe “the U.S. should restrict military aid to Israel until it stops attacks on civilians in Gaza, supports Palestinian rights, and commits to a long-term peace process”.
Twenty percent said the U.S. should continue providing military assistance to its ally while urging Israel to reduce civilian harm, according to the survey.
The U.S. faces criticism for providing military aid to the Zionist regime, as more than 52,300 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.
Successive U.S. administrations have worked to shield the occupying regime from criticism and accountability at international forums, including by vetoing UN Security Council resolutions against Israeli abuses.
The ICC issued arrest warrants last November for Zionist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former war minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
The occupying regime also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
