China Launches First 10G Broadband Network in Hebei
BEIJING (Xinhua) – China has launched its first 10G broadband network in Sunan County, Hebei Province, in a major push to modernize internet infrastructure and establish global leadership in ultra-fast connectivity.
China unveiled its first 10G broadband network in Sunan County, Hebei Province.
The launch marks a significant step forward in the nation’s digital infrastructure development.
The project is a joint effort by telecommunications giant Huawei and China Unicom.
It leverages advanced 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) technology.
The network delivers download speeds of up to 9,834 megabits per second and upload speeds of 1,008 Mbps.
Latency has been reduced to just 3 milliseconds, according to the companies.
“This represents a fundamental shift in broadband capability,” Huawei said in a technical briefing.
“Downloading a full-length 4K movie, typically 20 GB in size, which would take up to 10 minutes on a 1 Gbps connection, can now be completed in under 20 seconds,” the company added.
The new network is expected to support bandwidth-intensive applications including cloud computing, augmented and virtual reality, 8K video streaming, and smart home systems.
Experts say it will also enable advances in fields such as healthcare, remote education, and smart agriculture by ensuring faster and more stable data transfers.
Huawei, established in 1987 and headquartered in Shenzhen, has played a pivotal role in the development of global telecom technologies, including optical broadband and 5G.
China Unicom, one of China’s three major state-owned telecom carriers, provides broadband and enterprise services nationwide.
The initiative reflects China’s broader ambition to lead the next generation of digital connectivity and infrastructure innovation.
