Iran Opens Qur’anic Calligraphy in Jeddah

TEHRAN - A Quranic calligraphy and Arabic poetry exhibition, organized by the Iranian Consulate in Jeddah, has officially opened in the Saudi city.
According to Sabq, the event was inaugurated by Farid bin Saad Al-Shahri, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Mecca branch, in collaboration with the Museums of the Saudi Center for Islamic Arts.
The opening ceremony was attended by Hassan Zarnegar, Iran’s Consul General in Jeddah, along with other consuls, representatives of chambers of commerce, cultural and artistic figures, and delegates from international organizations.
In his opening remarks, Zarnegar said the exhibition’s title was inspired by Surah Al-Qalam (“The Pen”) from the Qur’an, which contains, he noted, “profound symbols about writing and the pursuit of knowledge.”
Highlighting the role of the arts in building international bridges, he stated, “Art and culture are among the most powerful tools for peace and cooperation.”
He emphasized that artistic exhibitions can serve as platforms for promoting messages of “peace” among nations.
The Iranian Consul General also called for increased investment in cultural collaboration, saying it would strengthen friendly ties between countries. “Iran and Saudi Arabia are home to deep-rooted civilizations and rich cultural heritages,” he said, adding that both nations share a common commitment to preserving Islamic and Qur’anic traditions.
Zarnegar concluded by thanking participants for attending the event and noted that such initiatives reflect a shared interest in “cultural coexistence and strengthening regional understanding.”
