72 Iranian Inmates Memorize Entire Qur’an

TEHRAN -- An Iranian official says 72 inmates in the country’s prisons have learned the entire Qur’an by heart.
Head of Iran’s Prisons Organization Gholamali Muhammadi highlighted the organization’s approach of promoting a reformative educational culture in prisons based on institutionalizing Qur’anic issues.
He said Qur’anic education is provided to prisoners by experienced clerics in areas such as Qur’an recitation, reading, Tajweed, interpretation, and memorization.
He said the aim is to familiarize prisoners with the Qur’an and ultimately help them develop a connection with the divine words, steering them towards reform and reintegration into society.
Muhammadi referred to the effective activities of Qur’an instructors in the Dar-ol-Qur’an centers established in prisons and said this approach has led a significant number of inmates across the country to engage in memorizing the Qur’an, from one Juz (part) to the entire 30 Juzes.
He noted that 72 prisoners have so far managed to memorize the entire Qur’an.
Earlier, Muhammadi told IQNA that 518 Dar al-Quran centers have been established in prisons across the country to bring the Qur’an into jails.
