Official: Iran Among Top 12 Countries in Biotechnology
TEHRAN -- Head of the Biotechnology Research Center of Tarbiat Modarres University in Tehran Fatemeh Rahbarizadeh announced that Iran is standing among the top 12 countries of the world in the development of biotechnology.
“Biotechnology, as an interdisciplinary science, has played a very important role in scientific and industrial transformation and development and can be particularly effective in accelerating the economic and social progress of developing countries,” Rahbarizadeh said.
She added that the number of companies active in the field of biotechnology in Iran has more than doubled over the past decade, which indicates the growing trend of this industry and the country’s increasing capabilities in this field.
“Iran has been able to achieve a significant position in the global rankings in this area and ranks 12th now in the world in producing scientific and research articles in the field of biotechnology,” Rahbarizadeh said.
Last year, the head of Iran’s biotechnology association said that the country’s researchers had produced different types of biotechnology medicine and exporting them to foreign states.
“Although biotechnology is younger than the pharmaceutical industry, today we see that the largest part of Iran’s medical exports is biotechnology-based drugs produced by knowledge-based companies,” Sirous Zeynali said then.
