Biometric Tests Used to Identify Illegal Immigrants
TEHRAN -- The advisor to the interior minister and the head of the Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrant Affairs said Monday Iran is conducting biometric tests to identify illegal immigrants and prevent their re-entery into the country.
Nader Yar-Ahmadi touched on the influx of Afghans, saying Iran’s infrastructure can no longer accommodate additional immigrants.
He said walls have been constructed along Iran’s eastern borders to prevent illegal immigrants, adding other legal measures are being taken with the help of the judiciary to deal with unauthorized foreigners.
Yar-Ahmadi said biometric tests including fingerprinting as well as iris and face registration are conducted at border points to prevent illegal re-entry into Iran.
On Thursday, Iran’s UN envoy criticized the international community for failing to support the Islamic Republic in the face of problems stemming from the crisis in neighboring Afghanistan.
Addressing a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan, Amir Saeid Iravani said Iran has shouldered a disproportionate share of the problem, especially after the reckless U.S. withdrawal in 2021.
