Ghalibaf: U.S. Election Will Not Affect Iran’s Plans
TEHRAN -- Parliament speaker Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Sunday Iran’s ability to defend its interests will not be affected by the comings and goings of other countries’ presidents.
Ghalibaf made the remarks during an open parliamentary session, a few days after Donald Trump was elected as the new president of the United States.
He said there are “meaningful differences” in the way that the U.S. presidents show their hostility towards the Islamic Republic, but the issue depends on Iran’s national power.
“The main point is that what determines the enemy’s behavior towards us is the national power and the authoritative conduct and intelligence of the Islamic Republic based on its approach of revolutionary rationality,” he added.
“The coming and going of the presidents of other states will have no effects on our country’s ability to secure its interests as we see fit, as long as we rely on our domestic power, and Iranian thought and will.”
Ghalibaf also stressed that Iran’s internal power, which comes from the power of the nation and its indomitable resolve, prompts world powers to consider the nation’s interests in their decisions.
He urged Iranian officials to enhance the country’s defensive strength and solve economic problems to boost the country’s deterrence in the face of threats and pressure.
