UN Strongly Condemns Terrorist Attack on Iranian Police

NEW YORK (Dispatches) -- The United Nations Security Council has condemned  terrorist attack on a police convoy in Iran’s southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province that left 10 law enforcement personnel martyred.
In a press statement, the 15-member body “condemned in the strongest terms” Saturday’s “cowardly terrorist attack on a patrol unit of the Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Goharkooh region of the city of Taftan.”
It also offered the deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families, as well as the Iranian people and government over the tragedy.
“The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice,” the statement read.
“They urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as all other relevant authorities in this regard.”
The Security Council stressed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terror are criminal and unjustifiable.
The so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the deadly ambush on Iranian police vehicles.
The foreign-backed terror outfit, based in Pakistan, has been involved in numerous assaults targeting both civilians and security forces across Sistan- Baluchestan in the past several years.
Also, the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations said Israel’s recent aggression against Iran was a blatant violation of the UN Charter, the fundamental principles of international law and the country’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
In a statement, the 18-member UN group condemned in the strongest terms the Zionist regime’s “pre-mediated and heinous” act of aggression against Iran on October 26, which resulted in the martyrdom of four servicemen of the Iranian Armed Forces and one civilian, IRNA reported on Thursday.
Israeli warplanes used U.S.-controlled airspace over Iraq to fire projectiles at military installations in Iran’s Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces in flagrant breach of the country’s national sovereignty.
The UN group said the attack violated the UN Charter which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity of countries.
It expressed its serious concern about the continuation of the Zionist regime’s efforts to ignite a broader war in West Asia and put the region on fire.
“Just as repeated gross violations of international law, the provocations and aggressions of the Israeli regime against the countries of the region show its intention to escalate tensions,” the statement said.
It stressed the urgent need to hold the Zionist regime accountable for all its crimes against the people of Palestine and other Arab nations in the occupied territories and across the region.
The member countries of the group also expressed their solid solidarity with the Iranian people and government and offered their condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Israeli attack.
The 24-member Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations was established in July 2021 in New York with initial 16 UN member states.
The main goal of the grouping is to support the UN Charter and serve as a platform, among other things, to promote the prevalence of legality over force.
