Ashrafi Claims Gold in World Taekwondo Junior Championships

TEHRAN – Amir Mohammad Ashrafi from Iran claimed a gold medal on the second day of the World Taekwondo Junior Championships underway in Chuncheon, South Korea on Wednesday.
Ashrafi defeated Australia’s Aiden Stilley to take the first gold of the evening in the men’s +78kg weight division.
He used his height and leg length to maximum effect in both rounds, winning the first 11-2 and the second by technical superiority as his 15-point lead gave him for a richly deserved triumph.
Italy’s Matteo De Angelis and Spain’s Iván Lysenko Serrano earned the bronze medals.
Earlier on Tuesday in women’s divisions, Parnian Noori and Aynaz Nasiri won two gold medals on the first day of the event.
Noori defeated China’s Yinuo Xu in an intriguing women’s -52kg final to become the first junior world champion crowned in Chuncheon.
The bronze medals went to Sila Irmak Uzunçavdar of Turkey and Spain’s Noa Romero Fernandez.
Nasiri also staved off the challenge of Kazakhstan’s Nuray Kaznabek in the women’s -59kg.
Ella Brewster of Canada and Croatia’s Marija Uglešić in the weight category.
There are 963 of the world’s most talented young athletes competing across 10 weight categories in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
