Challenges & Opportunities for President Pezeshkian

By: Kayhan International

President-elect Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, officially assumed office as the 14th Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Iran following his endorsement on Sunday by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei gave the necessary guidelines to the new president on his succession to the Late “People’s President” Hojjat al-Islam Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi who attained martyrdom on May 19 in a copter crash.
He emphasized relations with the entire global community of nations and advised efficient management for the progress and development of the country in continuation of the success of the outgoing administration.
On global events, particularly in the region, the Leader said: “The country should deal with [those events] actively and influentially, not passively,” adding “such a policy applies to all issues including political and even scientific ones.”
Dr. Pezeshkian, a heart surgeon by profession has previously served the country as an elected member of parliament and before that as a minister of health.
On assuming charge of the administration from former First Vice President Dr. Mohammad Mokhber, the caretaker of the presidency since last May, he appointed as First Vice President prominent scientific scholar, Dr Mohammad Reza Aref, who had served in the same post in an earlier administration some two decades ago.
In the coming days, the new president will name his cabinet ministers, who according to the constitution after due review of their past records by the parliament will be confirmed in their posts on receiving the required number of votes.
Dr. Pezeshkian has already announced his stance on the necessity of ending the genocide in Gaza and his firm support for the Axis of Resistance in its campaign for peace and stability in the region by resolutely confronting the devilish designs of the illegal Zionist entity and its terroristic backer, the US.
Israel is not a nation. Neither is it a country nor does it have a government. It is an illegitimate entity of illegal non-Semitic migrants from east Europe, knowns as Zionists, who are in occupation of Palestine since 1948.
It serves as a base of the US in the heart of the Muslim World. It is under the control of a gang of criminals, murderers, terrorists, and child-killers, who over the past ten months have reduced Gaza to almost a rubble.
These mass murderers, despite the verdicts of the UN and its sister agencies against them have continued to destroy the infrastructure of Gaza, and have so far slaughtered some 40,000 people (mostly women and children), in addition to severely wounding over a hundred thousand others – many of whom maimed for life.
President Pezeshkian should now decisively deal with this and other vital issues, in addition to exercising deft diplomacy to nullify the criminal sanctions of the US upon Iran, while sparing no efforts to improve the national economy and achieve new milestones in such important fields as peaceful use of nuclear energy.
