Pezeshkian Assures Haniyeh of Iran’s Support for Palestine
TEHRAN -- President-elect
Masoud Pezeshkian has assured Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh of Iran’s “all-out support” for the oppressed Palestinian nation “until the realization of all of its ideals and rights as well as liberation of the noble Al-Quds” from the Israeli occupation.
The support, he noted, is in line with the “lofty goals” of the Islamic Revolution and within the framework of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini’s ideals and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s directives.
Pezeshkian addressed Haniyeh in response to the Palestinian resistance movement leader’s congratulatory message on his election win.
“I am certain that, under the aegis of the resisting people of Palestine and the oppressed and strong Gaza’s historic steadfastness, and the heroic diligence of the fighters of the Palestinian resistance in the ongoing war, triumph and divine victory will be awarded to dear Palestine,” Pezeshkian wrote.
Separately, the president-elect invited the regional Arab countries to engage in “constructive dialog” and joint endeavor with Iran towards enhancement of unity, security, and prosperity across the region.
“I am willing to address my brothers and sisters and neighbors in the region so we can take steps together down the path of constructive dialog and enhancement of cooperation and solidarity among the regional nations and governments,” he wrote in an opinion piece on London-based Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper.
Pezeshkian called on all regional countries to work towards “laying the foundation of the structure of a strong region” by relying on “the power of logic instead of the logic of power”.
He said the sole means of a successful transition from existing challenges is in-depth, constructive, and goal-oriented dialogue with the aim of contributing to regional integrity and cooperation.
“I extend a hand of friendship and brotherhood towards all the regional neighbors and countries towards realization of this goal,” the article titled “Together, for a Strong and Prosperous Region” read.
Pezeshkian underlined that Iran and its Arab and Muslim neighbors are of the same opinion and share common interests with regard to many regional and international issues.
He cited opposition to “a few countries’ monopoly over international decision-making” and “division of the world and polarization based on the interests of great powers” among their common standpoints.
“Treatment of the old wound of occupation of Palestine is an issue that is faced by all of us,” Pezeshkian wrote.
The Islamic Republic, he said, is of the opinion that the realization of regional peace and security is conditional on the recognition of the Palestinian nation’s “natural and obvious” rights such as the right to all-out resistance against occupation, independence, and self-determination.
Pezeshkian laid emphasis on the need for putting an end to “the occupation, apartheid, mass killings, and state terrorism that is being exercised by the occupying Zionist region.”
He said Israel’s nuclear arsenal is a source of threat to the region as well as international peace and security.
“Steps should be taken with the help of the countries of the region and the world towards a Middle East region free of weapons of mass destruction.”
The president-elect said Iran “considers its neighbors’ power to be its own power,” warning that intra-regional crises and disagreements only serve the occupying regime and foreign powers.
