Iran, Pakistan to Set Up Iqbal Literary Association
TEHRAN -- The international conference on Allama Iqbal Lahori has been held in Tehran with the participation of writers and professors of the Persian language from Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and China.
The conference underlined the importance of the unity of the Islamic world based on the ideas of Allamah Iqbal.
Jafar Ronas, Iran’s cultural attaché in Lahore, proposed the establishment of the “Iqbal Literary Association” in order to strengthen, continue and develop the friendship between Iran and Pakistan and with the aim of introducing the new generation with Iran’s Persian-speaking writers, especially the contemporary writers and poets of the two countries.
“At a time when Islam was targeted, Allama Iqbal revived the social elements,” Ronas said.
He said Allama Iqbal was not only a wise writer and great philosopher, but more importantly, he was a reformer.
“In fact, people like Seyyed Jamaluddin Asadabadi and Muhammad Abdo came at some point and made reforms and changes and created a way of thinking, but what remained was the action of the great scientist Allama Iqbal and the reason for that was his ability to express his thoughts in prose and poem.”
Ronas said the “Iqbal Literary Association” is established with the aim of familiarizing the new generation with classic works and focusing on contemporary poets and honoring poets who are still alive.
