Iran Women’s Handball Team to Meet Poland at World Opener

TEHRAN – Iran will open its 2023 IHF World Women’s Handball Championship campaign with a match against Poland on Thursday.
Team Melli has been drawn in Group F along with Poland, Japan and Germany.
Iran will play Poland at the Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, Denmark.
Iran finished 31st in the previous edition and is going to earn a better place in this edition.
“We are the only women team in Iran to participate in the world championship and this is a great honor. I hope we can show a better performance than the previous edition,” Iran’s women’s team caretaker Elham Solouki said.
Iran will also meet Germany and Japan on December 2 and 4, respectively.

Majid Rahimizadeh Named Iran Handball Coach

Majid Rahimizadeh, former Iran youth handball coach, was named the new head coach of Iran’s senior team.
He replaced Serbian coach Veselin Vujovic, who had been named Team Melli coach in April 2022.
Vujovic was sacked following poor results in the 2022 Asian Games.
As a player, Vujovic competed at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics for the Yugoslavia national team and won a gold and a bronze medal in Los Angeles and Seoul, respectively.
Rahimizadeh will lead Iran at the 2024 Asian Men’s Handball Championship, which will be held in Bahrain from January 11 to 25.
Iran has been drawn along with South Korea, China and New Zealand in Group B.
