Azerbaijan, Iran Stress Need for Regional Peace Mechanisms
TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian says regional mechanisms play a key role in establishing peace and promoting convergence among the countries in the region.
In a phone conversation with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the top Iranian diplomat added that further activation of formats for regional cooperation would serve the interests of regional countries.
The Azerbaijani foreign minister, for his part, stressed the importance of boosting dialogue and regional mechanisms without interference of extra-regional states.
Bayramov hailed growing relations between Tehran and Baku and called for more cooperation between the two sides on regional and international developments.

The two sides further discussed the latest efforts to complete the Rasht-Astara railway project and also the three-way transit MoU involving Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan.
Iran and Russia have expanded their relations steadily over the past years amid sanctions imposed on both countries by the Western governments, especially the U.S.
