Fortress Showcases Iran’s Architectural Heritage

TEHRAN -- Qaleh-Gardan, an ancient fortress from the Iron Age, stands as a testament to the rich archaeological heritage of the Iranian Plateau.
Situated atop a hill in the Rahimabad district of Gilan Province, Qaleh-Gardan is a weathered and crumbling structure dating back approximately 2800 to 3200 years.
The fortification, spanning an area of 90 square meters, showcases the prevalent architectural methodologies of the era, featuring a combination of robust stones, durable mortar and sturdy timber beams.
Qaleh-Gardan is encompassed by mountainous terrain, including the Zagros Range located to the west, and the Alborz Range situated to the north. These regions possess a plethora of apt cave locations, which were utilized by our early human ancestors.
The amazing structure stands as a fascinating testament to the ancient past and the cultural significance of the Iron Age on the Iranian Plateau.
