Ministry Congratulates Nation on Flotilla’s Historic Journey
TEHRAN – the Iranian Navy 86th flotilla has successfully completed its historic circumnavigation of the world for the first time in the country’s history, Foreign Minority spokesman Nasser Kanaani announced on Wednesday.
“Congratulations to the great nation of Iran; the 86th flotilla of the Iranian Navy, featuring Iranian-built destroyer Dena and the Makran port ship, traveled around the world for the first time in the history of the country,” Kanaani tweeted.
He said the mission scored “another honor” for the Islamic Republic on the international stage.
The 86th flotilla is comprised of Dena, a warship equipped with anti-ship cruise missiles, torpedoes, and naval cannons, and Makran, a floating military base that can carry five helicopters and is employed for providing logistical support for combat warships.
It had set sail from Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas on September 20 last year for a global voyage that took it to the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
The mission was aimed at expanding Iran’s naval presence in international waters.
