TEHRAN – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Muhammad Baqer Qalibaf has said that a series of misunderstandings in the relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan have been cleared up.
Speaking to reporters after visiting Turkey for the 13th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), Qalibaf said he has held a meeting with his Azeri counterpart on the sidelines of the conference in Antalya.
He said a series of misunderstandings that had arisen recently in the relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan have been cleared up, as he is scheduled to pay a visit to Baku in future.
In the Monday meeting with speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, Qalibaf said Iran will never accept any geopolitical change to borders in the Caucasus region and rejects any intervention in that region by extra-regional countries.
Referring to the importance of Tehran-Baku relations in various political, economic and parliamentary fields, Qalibaf said, “The neighboring country of Azerbaijan has special conditions from the Islamic Republic of Iran’s viewpoint... and the two countries seek to further deepen their relations.”
