FM Amir-Abdollahian: Close Syria-Iran Ties to Help Regional Stability, Security
TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian has hailed the “outstanding relations” between Iran and Syria, saying close cooperation with Damascus will help promote stability and peace in the region.
In a meeting with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Ayman Sosan in Tehran, Amir-Abdollahian underlined the importance of boosting ties with Syria in various fields, saying the “outstanding ties” and the close cooperation between the two countries will lead to stability, security and peace in the region.
He said it is an inevitable necessity for both Tehran and Damascus to increase their economic cooperation.
Sosan also hailed Iran’s support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and extremism and its efforts to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing crisis in his country.
The Syrian diplomat called for the expansion of relations with Iran which have been based on the strategic stance of the two countries’ high-ranking officials.
He discussed the latest political developments in Syria, including the political settlement of the crisis in the country, with the top Iranian diplomat.
Iran maintains an advisory mission in Syria at the request of Damascus with the aim of helping the war-torn Arab country get rid of the foreign-backed militants, who have been fighting against the Syrian government since 2011.
In 2017, Iran’s advisory assistance helped Syria defeat the Daesh terrorist group.
In a Sunday phone call with Amir-Abdollahian, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad appreciated Iran’s constructive and effective role in the fight against terrorism, and in the political settlement of the foreign-sponsored crisis in the Arab country.
