Azerbaijani, Iranian FMs Hold Phone Talks

TEHRAN -- Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian says regional issues can be settled well through the positive approaches adopted by the regional countries.
In a phone conversation with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Amir-Abdollahian hoped the two countries would witness further promotion of cooperation in various politico-economic sectors in the new year.
He said Tehran is ready to step up cooperation with Baku in transportation, transit and trade sectors.
The top Iranian diplomat proposed the formation of media working groups to discuss water shortage and pollution of the Aras River, which forms a large part of the Iran-Azerbaijan border.
Bayramov, for his part, stressed the importance of cooperation with Iran and said Azerbaijan is keen to hold a meeting of the joint economic commission of the two countries early in 2023 to enhance bilateral economic and trade relations.
In a phone call with his Azerbaijani counterpart late in October, Amir-Abdollahian said cooperation between regional countries is the key to collective peace and security.
“We consider regional security to be a contiguous category, and consider the Azerbaijani republic’s security to be integrated with that of the region and that of our own,” the top diplomat told Bayramov.
