President Raisi Urges Stepped-Up Anti-Virus Measures

TEHRAN – President Ebrahim Raisi on Saturday called on the authorities to step up their vigilance to contain the spread of coronavirus in Iran as the number of new cases is increasing globally.
Speaking at a session of the Coronavirus Fight National Headquarters, Raisi called on the officials to tighten precautionary measures for travelers arriving from infected zones.
Pointing to the rise in the number of COVID cases in various countries from East Asia to Europe and the Americas, Raisi stressed the need to strictly control the points of entry and carry out necessary tests.
The president also ordered the Health Ministry to prepare and furnish vaccination centers, so that all Iranians would receive a booster dose at least 6 months after their previous jab.
Hailing Iranian scientists for developing six types of coronavirus vaccine inside the country, the president said more than 156 million doses of COVID vaccine have been administered to Iranians so far.
The number of deaths from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran increased to 144,685 with three more Iranians killed by the deadly disease over the past 24 hours, Iran’s Health Ministry said Saturday.
Three more Iranians died from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) over the past 24 hours, it added.
Eighty-two new cases of infection with COVID-19 were found over the period, 39 of whom were hospitalized, it said.
