Iran Fail to Advance to World Cup Knockout Stage

TEHRAN – Iran national men’s football team lost 0-1 to the USA in the third and final match of 2022 World Cup Group B match and failed to qualify for the next knockout stage in Qatar.
With those results, Iran were eliminated from this World Cup in the group stage again. England and the USA qualified for the next round of 19 as the first and second teams, respectively in Group B.
In a simultaneous match with the Iran-USA game, England beat Wales 3-0 to qualify with 7 points.
Iran came third in the group with 3 points and the US landed in second place with 5 points.
The following is the figures for second half of the match:
Iran Deserved at Least a Draw

Iran coach Carlos Queiroz said Team Melli deserved at least a draw against the American squad.
Following the match against the U.S., the Portuguese coach said he was proud of his players and their hard work on the pitch.
In the second half, Iran took possession of the ball and created more chances than the United States did in the first half and the team deserved to score at least a goal, Queiroz said.
The Iranian team was punished for not finding the back of the net in the game despite several attempts to this end, the manager noted.
Mozambique-born coach Queiroz, 69, who led Iran at the World Cup in both 2014 and 2018, coached the team in Qatar, where they faced England, Wales, and the United States in Group B at the tournament.
The Iranian squad said goodbye to the World Cup by gaining three points (one win and two losses) as well as scoring four goals and receiving seven goals.
United States national football team forward Timothy Weah has sent a message on social media praising Iran’s team in the 2022 World Cup.
In his message released on social media, the American player lauded the Iranian squad after the United States defeated Iran 1-0 and secured their pass to the round of 16 in the World Cup underway in Qatar.
“Always been more than just football to me and I would just like to send my love to this wonderful team,” he wrote.
“Displayed so much pride and love for their country and for their people,” said the athlete.
